Domaine Laurent Cognard

The estate is in Buxy, the southern gateway to the Côte Chalonnaise, within the Montagny appellation.

Laurent Cognard bought his first vines in 1997 and did not go full-time until 2006, with five and a half hectares. Today he farms eighteen, spread across Loché, Montagny and Mercurey, of which six point four are Montagny 1er Cru.

For years the winery was housed in the village's old medieval prisons: narrow vaulted cellars, of the sort that cannot be enlarged. In 2018 it moved to the Château de Buxy, in the centre of town, where there was finally room for a tasting room and premises to match the estate.

Le Vieux Château, which gives its name to one of his wines, is an old military stronghold on the heights of Buxy. The clos is planted in what was its courtyard, on a limestone plateau.
