Patrick Miolane founded this small family domaine in Saint-Aubin in 1983 with just 2 hectares, and today, with his daughter Barbara by his side since 2005, the estate spans 9 hectares across 14 cuvées. He stands as one of the last producers still committed to red Saint-Aubin 1er Cru, a discipline most of his neighbors have abandoned in favour of the more commercially rewarding whites. Sur Gamay is a tiny named climat of just 0.72 hectares in total, facing south to south-southwest at roughly 370 metres altitude on clay-limestone soils, and takes its name from the hamlet of Gamay nestled directly below the vines.

In the vineyard, Miolane follows lutte raisonnée principles — minimal chemical intervention, strict pruning, and hand harvesting — to ensure the fruit arrives in the cellar in the best possible condition. The wine is then aged for approximately 12 months in a combination of oak barrels and vat, preserving both structure and freshness. The 2022 vintage, warm and early across Burgundy and frequently compared to 2015 in its richness and silky texture, delivers ripe red fruit, a supple mid-palate, and the bright mineral character that defines the finest reds of the Côte de Beaune — all at a price that makes this rare bottling genuinely worth seeking out.
