Château Bellerive stands among the handful of historic estates that shaped the Quarts de Chaume appellation, now stewarded by Alain Château since 2004 with the late Denis Dubourdieu consulting. Its 12 hectares sit within one of France's most rigorous sweet wine terroirs — a ~40-hectare enclave above Rochefort-sur-Loire where steep south-facing slopes of decomposed sandstone, micro-granites, and Brioverian schists, combined with Layon morning mists, produce the noble rot essential to this style. Recognised in 2011 as France's first Grand Cru for a sweet Loire wine, the appellation enforces a maximum yield of 20 hl/ha, a minimum must sugar of 298 g/l, and at least 85 g/l of residual sugar at bottling.

The 2020 vintage was hand-harvested in successive passes targeting perfectly botrytised berries, then slowly fermented in 400-litre oak barrels and aged for 10 to 12 months with regular bâtonnage. Mid-August rains extended the ripening season, encouraging outstanding botrytis development and yielding a wine of remarkable balance and freshness — qualities widely compared to the celebrated 2012. In the glass it shows deep gold with amber hues, an elegant nose of citrus and exotic fruit, and a powerful, luscious palate of mango and passion fruit underpinned by bright acidity; at 12% alcohol and 140 g/l residual sugar, it is built to drink through 2035 and well beyond.
