Maison Patriarche, founded in Beaune in 1780 and one of Burgundy's oldest négociant houses, operates from a 17th-century former convent whose five kilometres of vaulted cellars hold around three million bottles, with the house sourcing fruit from carefully selected growers across the region. The Clos du Chapitre is a named Premier Cru climat in the Fixin appellation (Côte de Nuits), set on the mid-to-lower slope with an east-southeast exposure at roughly 320–360 metres altitude, on brown-limestone soils in the upper section and marl-limestone below; its name recalls the canonical chapter of the Cathedral of Saint-Mammès de Langres, whose canons owned vines in Fixin since the Middle Ages alongside the Cistercians of Cîteaux. Within Fixin, Clos du Chapitre is regarded as the most refined of the Premier Crus, offering more finesse and less structural weight than the firmer Clos de la Perrière immediately above it on the slope.

The 2018 vintage across the Côte de Nuits was exceptionally warm and sunny — roughly two degrees above the long-term average and some thirty percent richer in sunshine hours — producing an early, healthy harvest that combined generous quantity with outstanding quality; crucially for Fixin, the heat fully ripened what are normally the appellation's firm, sometimes austere tannins, yielding a silky texture that is distinctly unusual here. The wine shows concentrated dark fruit — black cherry, morello — alongside violet, liquorice, and spice, with the density and balance to reward several years of additional cellaring.
