Domaine Gallet

The estate was created in 1807, on the heights of the Côte Blonde, in Ampuis, between Condrieu and Lyon. Six generations of Gallets have followed.

One date orders everything: they did not bottle at the property until 1987. For a hundred and eighty years the family grew and made wine, but what left the house did not carry their label.

Philippe and Valérie run it today. Four hectares in Côte-Rôtie plus one of vin de pays: a small holding even for a hillside appellation like this one.

The vines sit on steep slopes of free-draining metamorphic rock, spread across the lieux-dits of Lancement, Combard, Fongeant and Chavaroche. The average age is around forty-five years.

Six per cent of the vineyard is viognier and the rest syrah. The wines age for eighteen to twenty-four months in barrel, with 15% new wood.
