Domaine Poisot Père et Fils

In 1902 Marie Poisot, daughter of Louis Latour, inherited two hectares of vines. They were not any two hectares: they took in a premier cru in Pernand and three grands crus, Corton, Corton-Charlemagne and Romanée-Saint-Vivant.

After the successive divisions and sales that followed her inheritance and the death of her son Pierre Poisot, a grower in Aloxe-Corton who died in 1937, the estate still runs to about those two hectares. And it keeps something very rare in a small family domaine: three grands crus and one premier cru in barely two hectares.

Its Romanée-Saint-Vivant parcel is under half a hectare. It sits in the southern part of the grand cru, just below Romanée-Conti, facing the rising sun, on heavy brown limestone clay with deep soil.

Rémi Poisot took over in 2010, after twenty-five years in the Navy.

The cellar is in Aloxe-Corton, a village given over entirely to vines and whose very name tells a story: Corton, the name of its grand cru, was added to Aloxe by imperial decree on 22 March 1862.
