Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry

The name on the label was formed in two stages, and both surnames have a story. The estate appears in 1616 in the hands of the Escousses family, and in 1697 Louise Escousses sold it to Simon Malescot, adviser to Louis XIV in the Bordeaux Parliament, who left it his surname.

The second came later, with Jean-Baptiste Saint-Exupéry, who added his to the château's. He was the great-grandfather of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the aviator who wrote The Little Prince. The surname on the bottle is his family's.

In the 1855 Médoc classification it entered as a Troisième Cru Classé of Margaux.

On 1 June 1955 it was bought by Paul and Roger Zuger. The property then had barely seven hectares; today there are twenty-eight, across five parcels within the commune of Margaux, with the winery and cellars in the village itself. Jean-Luc Zuger runs it.
