Château Sigalas Rabaud

The property can be traced to 1660, when it belonged to the de Cazeau family. The last of that line sold Rabaud in 1819 to Gabriel Deyme, who was the owner when the 1855 classification was drawn up.

In 1863 it was bought by Henri Drouilhet de Sigalas, who added his surname to it. He also bought Château Pexoto, ten hectares classified as a deuxième cru in that same 1855, and absorbed it: a classified growth that vanished as a name by being folded into another.

The decisive moment came in 1903. Pierre-Gaston de Sigalas, Henri's only son, sold the greater part of the estate to Adrien Promis — from which Château Rabaud-Promis was born — and kept only the even southern slope, which is the property today. He sold the larger half and kept the better one.

The result is fourteen and a quarter hectares, usually cited as the smallest premier cru in Sauternes. Planted with 85% sémillon, 14% sauvignon blanc and 1% muscadelle.
