Clos de Gat is situated in the foothills of the Judean Mountains, bordering Israel's biblical Ayalon Valley. An ancient wine press — Gat in Hebrew — pre-dating the Roman period by over a thousand years is located in the heart of the estate's 19-hectare vineyard. 100% Syrah.

Hand-harvested with rigorous selection. After light pressing, grapes are transferred to open fermentation tanks. Aged 16 months in French oak barrels (30% new) with racking every 4–6 months. Bottled unfiltered. Vegan friendly.

Ubicado en las estribaciones de las montañas de Judea, bordeando el valle bíblico de Ayalon, Clos de Gat es un viñedo que cubre una superficie de 19 hectáreas. La bodega se asienta junto a la casa donde un antiguo lagar "Gat" (en hebreo) se encuentra antes de la época romana por mil años.

Las uvas se cosechan manualmente después de una rigurosa selección y se transfieren a tanques de fermentación abiertos. El vino pasa por una crianza de 16 meses en barricas nuevas de roble francés, con trasiegos cada 4-6 meses. Finalmente, el coupage es embotellado sin filtrar.

El Clos de Gat presenta aromas complejos y expresivos que incluyen frutas negras maduras como ciruelas y moras, junto a notas sutiles de especias y tostados procedentes de la madera. En boca es equilibrado con una acidez viva y taninos suaves, ofreciendo un final largo y persistente.

Learn more about Clos de Gat

The name is in two languages and only explains itself once you reach the estate. Clos is the French term for an enclosed vineyard; gat is the Hebrew word for wine press. And there is a real one: beside the house, in the middle of the vines, stands a gat cut into the rock that predates the Roman period by about a thousand years. Three thousand years old, on the spot where wine is still made today.

The winery lies in the foothills of the Judean mountains, on the edge of the Ayalon Valley of biblical accounts. In 1998 winemaker Eyal Rotem partnered with Kibbutz Harel and began planting vines and building a winery on the land surrounding his house. That is where the Har'El range takes its name.

There are nineteen hectares on a thin layer of topsoil resting directly on limestone bedrock, and a small output of around five thousand cases.
