Château Maine Chaigneau
We let you know when a new wine arrives or drops in price.
At the start of the twentieth century Maurice Courty left the Dordogne to grow vines in the Libournais. He bought land in Néac and in Montagne and created Château Lafleur Châtain.
Marie-Thérèse and Robert Courty took over the property in 1960 and began selling directly to customers. In 1985 the estate was divided between their three children, and that same year Joëlle and Serge Courty created Château Maine Chaigneau.
Cédric Courty, fourth generation, runs it today. There are 7.8 hectares in Néac split between Lalande-de-Pomerol, Montagne Saint-Émilion and Vin de France, with HVE certification since 2017.
This wine comes from a hectare and a half in Montagne Saint-Émilion, on clay-limestone soils over the Oligocene limestone plateau. It is 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc, and ages twelve months in stainless steel, with no barrel. Around 12,000 bottles.
