The 2019 Giró de Abargues was picked before the torrential rains and has a very pure and floral nose, a lot less rustic than other examples from the grape. It comes from the terraces around the winery in the Abarges property at some 200 meters in altitude and four kilometers from the sea. It's fluid and textured with fine chalky tannins and has very pure flavors and a long, dry and tasty finish with the sapidity from the chalky soils. It's ripe but without a trace of over-ripeness (14% alcohol) and powerful but also elegant and balanced. It fermented with 30% full clusters in small stainless steel vats and matured in used 500-liter oak barrels for one year. It's a lot more elegant and finer than the 2018, and that earthy, Barolo-like character is not here. Floral and elegant. 9,000 bottles were filled in February 2021.
